Rhino for Contour & Costume
Learn to develop contour fashion and costume design concepts into 3D models & technical drawings for prototyping & fabricating.
February 1 - March 15 (7 Weeks, Evenings)
Wednesdays 18:00 - 21:00
This course will teach you tools and methods to develop contour fashion and costume design concepts into 3D models and technical drawings that can be used for prototyping, range planning and fabricating with technologies like 3D printing.
Students will learn these tools and methods through exercises that include developing bodywear garments and costume elements directly onto a digitised body scan.
Rhinoceros 3D is a robust, versatile and intuitive 2D and 3D CAD software that enables you to turn your ideas into virtual prototypes ready for sampling. Rhino provides the tools and methods for taking advantage of new manufacturing technologies that enable the contour and costume design process to be more efficient, sustainable and cutting-edge. This intensive and comprehensive course is designed to provide you with a solid foundation to extend and improve your current design methods, whilst giving you the confidence to explore a world of unprecedented design possibilities.
The course includes:
-
Digitising hand sketches into Rhino
-
Extracting measurements and design lines from a digitised body scan
-
Developing armatures and piping that conform to the body
-
Creating and applying geometric patterns for garments to conform to the body
-
Preparing designs for grading and technical drawings
-
Optional: Making artistic visualisations (renderings) of garments designed in the class
-
Optional: Prototyping with 3D printers and other digital fabrication technologies
Level:
